Latest News from Ramsey Island 8th July 2016

Another busy week,

Alien invasion – Don’t worry if you’ve been seeing strange purple lights at night from across the water. We have been moth trapping with some enthusiasts from the mainland for the last few nights and have had portablle light traps running at locations all around the island. Moths are attracted to the actinic and mercury vapor bulbs and get caught in the trap, to be counted, identified and released (unharmed) later. The Ramsey list now stands at 295 species.

Grassholm 2016 – It’s that time of year again when you might see us ‘stranded’ out on Grassholm! We are now in our 10th consecutive year of gannet tracking work looking at, among other things, where our birds feed and where they migrate to.
