Join us on a traditional boat trip around Ramsey Island

a thrilling wildlife watching trip around one of Wales most beautiful nature reserves.

Our Popular Ramsey Island Adventure allows passengers of all ages and abilities to experience the amazing natural beauty of this unspoilt nature reserve. Our fully guided tour passes beneath some of the highest cliffs in Wales, through Ramsey Sound as we navigate around the island in search of the thousands of returning seabirds, Atlantic Grey Seals, their pups, and harbour Porpoise.

Trips run multiple times per day, are fully guided, with experienced wildlife enthusiasts, who offer some historic tales about the island, as well as the diverse geology which formed Ramsey island, and the marine and bird life to which it homes.

As we depart on our Ramsey Island Adventure we pass through Ramsey sound, a north-south tidal passage, which separates Ramsey Island from the mainland. Known for its strong currents and hazards rocks, the Bitches and whelps, Ramsey sound has rich historic and wildlife features which offer superb marine and bird life views.

Ramsey Sound is also home to Harbour Porpoise, normally on their own, or in a small pod, they can be found feeding in  Ramsey Sound, which offers our passengers a fantastic opportunity to both spot them and spend some time watching them feed in the area.

This unique, thrilling trip around Ramsey Island, is run on our traditional vessel, which allows fantastic opportunities for passengers to move about, when suitable to do so, and take in the incredible scenery and wildlife which surrounds them, as well as offering fantastic opportunities for photographers to capture the perfect snap.

As we continue to navigate around the Island, we come across the beaches and bays, which are filled with Atlantic Grey seals, and in the Autumn, their pups. The high cliffs are alive with thousands of nesting seabirds. Guillemots and Razorbills line the cliff edges, whilst the noisy Kittiwakes can be found inside the caves.

Keep your eyes out for the Buzzards and Peregrine Falcon, you may just catch them passing overhead.

Our Ramsey Island Adventure offers something for anyone, whether you’re a keen wildlife enthusiast, a photographer, or if you just want to get out and experience nature in its natural habitat, and spend time out at sea, our Ramsey Island Adventure has it all.

Do we visit the caves and coves over at the Island? +

Yes, we get reasonably close to the hidden caves and coves around Ramsey Island. We have to be careful around wildlife and operate within the Marine Code, but we certainly get close enough for you to capture the moment, and experience all that Ramsey Island has to offer.

What is the best time of year to go around the island? +

Ramsey Island is a wonderful place to visit all year round. We are fortunate that the Island offers up fantastic spectacles of wildlife, which changes throughout the year. Early season, we get the return of thousands of seabirds which fill the high cliffs, along with the resident birds. Harbour porpoise, and Atlantic Grey Seal sightings are common all year round, and then from September onwards, we welcome Seal pups to the island, which fill the beaches and bays.

What clothing should we wear whilst out on this trip? +

We always recommend wearing warm clothing whilst out on our trips. Even during the warmer months, being out at sea is always colder than being on land. A warm top layer, and waterproof jacket are always suggested, and please don’t forget to apply sunscreen during the summer months.

Can we take our dog? +

Yes, we are delighted to welcome dogs onto our Ramsey Island Adventure. Our Vessel is a high sided, wide based, traditional vessel, which allows dogs to feel comfortable and relaxed whilst cruising around the island.

Will we see Dolphins or Porpoise at Ramsey Island? +

There Is always a strong chance of seeing Harbour Porpoise whilst out on our Ramsey Island Adventure. The Porpoise feed around the Island, but mainly in Ramsey Sound, an area of water we spent time whilst out on the trip. If we come across the Porpoise then of course we will spend some time with them, at a respectable distance, allowing them to continue with what they were doing.

Dolphins are not seen as commonly as Porpoise on this trip, and we normally have to venture further out to sea to find them. Sightings normally occur during our Skomer or Grassholm trips. On occasions however, we have Common Dolphin and Risso Dolphin sightings around the Island, so keep your eyes peeled, you never know.
