Skomer Island

Skomer Island is owned by National Resources Wales and run by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales. Skomer, is the largest of the Pembrokeshire Islands, with an estimated 730 acres, with an area of 2.92 km.

Skomer Island is located just a mile off the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline, and can be seen across St. Brides bay and from Ramsey Island.

Skomer is renowned for its population of Puffins and Manx Shearwaters. Along with its neighboring island of Skokholm, they provide the largest breeding colony in southern Britain.

There were over 42,000 puffins recorded on Skomer Island during 2023, which is a 10% increase from the number recorded in the previous year.

Puffins can be spotted around Skomer Island from April to the end of July. By mid April the Puffins have settled on Skomer and have started building their nests.

From June to mid July the Puffins fly to and from their nests, taking fish to their young, before August comes around, where by the first week, they have normally left the island, not returning again until next spring.

As well as the comical Puffins, Skomer is also home to Atlantic Grey Seals, Harbor Porpoise, Dolphins, Fulmars, Razorbills and of course, the unique Skomer Vole. All of which you can see whilst heading over too, or by going around the island.
Skomer Island offers something for everyone, you can join one of the trips which navigate around the island, 2 hour Skomer Special, and witness all it has to offer, up close.
